Erratic weather

Can you believe this? It was 27-40 degrees last week. Today, it's 13-24 degrees?! and the weather stays like this for the next week. No wonder I am sick... with this erratic weather that's coming and going. Sheesh. Really sick this time though. Chesty cough, runny nose, sore throat. Argh. I hope I get well soon. Have been drinking lots of water, been taking medication, having lots of rest, and drinking packet chrysanthemum tea. I need to get well! It's so difficult to concentrate on doing anything when I'm coughing. Sigh.

It's Easter! Good thing about it? Easter holidays. 4 days. No class on friday and monday! wheee! Bad thing about this? No food cause the kitchen is close. But we had a bbq today that's organised by the college. And one of my friends at college gave me some hong shao zhu ruo, which is v v v tasty! Had that for dinner. Gonna cook some soup and fried rice tomorrow that should last me for the next 03 days. =) Kinda looking forward to having some soup... mmmmm

Photos from WOMadelaide 08

WOMadelaide (Womad = world of music and dance) was a 3 day event held at the Botanical Gardens. I went for the event on Sunday on 09 March... under 40 degrees heat. Was cool though... hehe. I got to hear music which I havent heard before. The tickets were sold out for this event and attracted about 40,000 people. Enjoy the photos!

Angus Watt's huge decorative flags have been a fixture at WOMADelaide since 1999. They serve as a form of shelter from the sun during the festival. heh. People can be desperate enough to hide under the shadow of these huge flags.

Fire sculptures from France. Cool stuff! Got the shock of my life when I first saw it though... it's flaming!!!

People hiding from the sun under the trees. And yes, there are actually tents. Amazing huh? But considering you have to stay there for about 12 hours (event started at 12 pm, ended at 12am around there), you'll like to be comfortable.

The crowd at the all-star performance. A lot of people! and they are very spontaneous.

Photos from Northern Lights

The Northern Lights is one of the Adelaide Bank Festival visual arts events. Artists from The Electric Canvas created the motifs that are projected onto the buildings (Art Gallery of South Australia, the Elder Conservatorium, Bonython Hall, the State Library etc). The motifs change every 5 mins! Cool stuff :) I didnt get all though cause I didnt have the time. But here are some of the photos which I took.

One of my fav, though it's not too clear. See the books at the side of the building? :)

Melting under 40 degrees...

The weather has been horrendous here in Adelaide. More than 35 degrees for 2 weeks! *faint* And to think I was so happy with the weather when I first arrived (it was 19 degrees when I arrived on 19 Feb!). I've been having trouble sleeping at nite cause of the hot weather. Been waking up a few times at nite to drink water and cough. Really miserable. Needless to say, I look like a panda now. Hai. I even used an umbrella to shade me from the sun!! I have NEVER done that before. I cant concentrate on studying in the room cause it's just too hot. The psy comp lab is like my 2nd home now. I go there and study instead... why not when there's aircon? :) Thank goodness cooler weather are in sight next week. It's actually going to drop to 27 on thurs!!! So looking forward to that!!! :D :D :D

It's week 2 of Uni this week. Due to the terribly hot weather, I havent made much progress in my readings. I need to get started! The assignments are coming!!!!!!!!!!!! There's about 14 of us in the Masters of Org Psy class. It's a well-mixed class, with aussies and international students. Some came directly from honours, some have working experience, some are part-timers. Really cool. And the lectures have been great so far! There's 1 module which I'm not sure how it relates to Org psy though. But I've borrowed the main text and will be reading up over the weekend to clear my doubts. We dun have lectures now... our classes are called seminars. What I think is really cool is that we have different people lecturing us on different topics, even in the same modules. So, essentially, we have the "experts" lecturing. Great huh? :)

Went to WOMadelaide (WOMAD = World of music and dance) on 9 March. I remember when I bought the ticket, the weather was at the pleasant temperature of about 24 degrees. The thought (at that time) of going to the botanical gardens at 24 degrees was so appealing. I mean, you get to enjoy the nice weather as well as music and dance... who would have thought that the weather will change so drastically!? So I spend my sunday (from 12pm to 11pm!) under the hot sun (it was 24 to 40 degrees) in the botanical gardents. Basically I was hunting for trees to hide under. Heh. The experience is great! I listened to music which I've never heard before. One of the singer made an impression on me. His name is David D'or and he is from Israel. I like his songs (even though I dunno what he was singing about since it's not in English)! His band and him and really hype up the crowd. Btw, I realised after I came back that there was a Womad festival in Singapore last year. Now I know.. I'll keep an eye on this next time.

Went for fencing on 11 March. Fencing is so strict here. Have to pay for membership of the sports association, which ensures you have insurance, in case you get hurt while fencing. o.O Because of this, I wasnt able to fence last week. Was just doing some footwork and revision. Fenced this week.. and boy, I was "killed". Hahahaha. Won only 1 bout out of 4. The people here are so good! I must jia you, practice more so I can win next time. I realised that the coach here said the same thing as coach min in SG. Relax, rhythm, small steps, parry and then riposte. Heh.

After fencing, I went to take some photos of some of the buildings at North Adelaide. The Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts is on atm. They have this cool thing going on at North Adelaide ---> Northern Lights. They project cool lights onto traditional buildings... when I figure out how to post photos, I'll put some on so you'll all know what I'm talking about.

Going to central market tomorrow to get some food. Next week is the easter holidays! Good thing --> No classes! Bad thing --> Kitchen is close so no food for 4 days. So i'll be buying a rice cooker and some food... hopefully I dun kill myself. Hahaha....

First day of Uni

Today is my first day of Uni after... 2 years? Very excited about it since this marks a new path in my life! =D Cant wait for it. Hopefully the workload will not drown me. Gd thing about masters? No exams!! Wheee!! hahahaha

It struck me this morning as I was eating breakfast that I am eating a lot of vegetables since I arrived in Adelaide. Since there's free salad at every dinner, I should just eat it. And the most common vegetable that I eat? Tomatoes. Yup, tomatoes. Nope, dun be surprised that I eat it. Yes, I was picky last time about it.. but now I eat it daily. And sometimes during breakfast too when they cook the tomatoes and serve it with egg! With the increased frequency that I've been eating this veg, I was concerned enough to look it up for its health benefits. (You know how people say that sometimes you cant eat too much of anything). Thank goodness for me that tomatoes have excellent health benefits.

Some of its health benefits:
Vitamin A, C and K
Fiber
Potassium
Reduce tendency to blood clotting

Great for me! :) At least I can eat not without worries.

Ok, going off to Uni. Need to go get some materials from the library (which I havent totally figured out how to use) and buy some files.

There's fencing today too!! :D :D :D
